What is a jig boring machine

A jig boring machine is a machine designed for processing metal holes that require precise coordinates. On such machines there are spindles of horizontal and vertical directions, as well as two or more guides with coordinates.

Each jig boring machine consists of a bed, a stand, a boring head, a special table on a slide and traverses. However, some machines may have other parts depending on the model.

Principle of operation

The principle of operation of the jig boring machine is the precise installation of the spindle at the required point, due to movement on the table in two perpendicular directions. After pointing to the desired point, the spindle is fixed and rotation is started. Thanks to rotation, a hole is machined in the right place on the part.

When entering the coordinates for the hole, the CNC machine itself directs the spindle to the required point.

Application

The jig boring machine can be used for:

- drilling holes

- turning the ends of the holes

- their deployment and reaming

- thread forming

- measurement of details.

Machine tools for processing metal and wood products are similar to each other in terms of the principle of operation. The main difference is the use of cutting tools with different degrees of endurance.
